Ambu Acquires US Workflow Software Company TIMS Medical

Ambu, the Danish company and global market leader in single-use endoscopy, has acquired TIMS Medical, a US-based company headquartered in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, with additional locations in Longwood, Florida, and Dallas, Texas. TIMS Medical specializes in imaging and reporting software built to integrate with hospital IT systems. The deal totals up to $65 million, made up of a $45 million upfront payment and up to $20 million in additional milestone payments. TIMS Medical is expected to contribute roughly $15 million in annual revenue.

Founded in 1937 in Ballerup, Denmark, Ambu invented the first self-inflating resuscitator, the Ambu Bag, in 1956, and later pioneered single-use endoscopy with the launch of its aScope in 2009. Rising patient volumes and stretched hospital resources are pushing healthcare providers toward tools that simplify administration and give clinicians faster access to patient information. TIMS Medical's software, already installed across roughly 7,000 US hospital sites with its strongest position in ear-nose-throat procedures, addresses exactly that need. Many hospitals already use Ambu and TIMS Medical products side by side, and the acquisition folds that installed base directly into Ambu's EndoIntelligence platform, thereby expanding Ambu's customer reach as part of the company's broader "ZOOM AHEAD" strategy. The deal does not change Ambu's financial guidance for its current fiscal year.

This acquisition follows Ambu's 2012 purchase of Indiana-based King Systems for $120 million, which added a US manufacturing facility and an established anesthesia device portfolio generating roughly $69 million in annual revenue at the time. Together, the two deals strengthen Ambu's US position, pairing physical devices with the software and hospital IT connectivity. On the TIMS Medical deal specifically, CEO Britt Meelby Jensen called it a step toward "global endoscopy leadership," while TIMS Medical founder Mark Mariotti pointed to the reach it unlocks: "Joining Ambu... gives us the opportunity to bring our technology to more customers."
